Downing injects £3m into Lignia
UK venture investor Downing has invested £3m in Wales-based Lignia Wood Company, a producer of sustainable modified wood.
The funding will be used to support the construction of Lignia's first commercial production facility, based in Barry, Wales. The plant is expected to be able to produce up to 15,000m³ of Lignia wood annually.
Earlier this month, Downing took part in a £6m funding round for UK-based biopharmaceutical company Arecor, along with peer investors Calculus Capital and Albion Capital.
Company
Established in 2006, Lignia Wood Company produces its signature Lignia wood product by impregnating wood with resin. Once cured, the wood has an appearance resembling a tropical hardwood. The company claims its product has a better appearance, durability, stability and fire resistance than other hardwoods such as oak and teak.
