Perwyn, BGF, MMC in £33m round for Gousto
Perwyn, BGF and MMC Ventures have invested in a £33m funding round for London-headquartered meal kit delivery company Gousto.
This round brings the total funds raised by Gousto in the last eight years to more than £130m.
The company intends to use the fresh capital to scale up its London-based technology team, currently composed of 100 staff, and its team based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. It also plans to open a second fulfilment centre later this year. Overall, Gousto expects to fill 400 roles within the next four months and increase its headcount by 700 people by 2022.
In addition, Gousto intends to further expand its customer base, invest in artificial intelligence technology designed to improve customers' shopping experiences and launch new product ranges.
Previous funding
Gousto first received venture capital backing in 2013, when MMC led a $2m round for the company. Nine months later, Unilever Ventures led a £5m series-A funding round for the business alongside MMC. BGF, MMC, Unilever and Angel CoFund then injected £9m into Gousto in 2015.
Subsequently, the company raised a £28.5m investment round in March 2018 from BGF, MMC, Angel CoFund and Hargreave Hale.
BGF, MMC, Unilever Ventures, Hargreave Hale and Angel CoFund took part in an £18m funding round for Gousto in January 2019.
Perwyn led a £30m funding round for the company seven months later. Existing investors BGF, MMC, Canaccord Genuity and Unilever Ventures also took part in the round.
Company
Founded in 2011 and based in London, Gousto sells and delivers ingredients and recipe meal kits to subscribers. Its ingredients are organic and seasonal, and are delivered in the exact proportions required, in order to minimise food waste.
Gousto has seen its revenues grow by 70% year on year, with 4 million meals delivered to 380,000 UK households monthly, according to the company. It plans to deliver 400 million meals by 2025.
