
Existing investors take part in $27m round for Verne
Existing investors have participated in a $27m funding round for data centre ttechnology company Verne Global.
The Wellcome Trust, Novator Partners, Stefnir and General Catalyst all participated.
The Wellcome Trust is a British biomedical research charity. Its most recent fund, Project Sigma, was announced in March 2012 with a target of £200m, according to Unquote Data.
Novator is an alternative investment firm founded and led by the international investor and entrepreneur Thor Bjorgolfsson.
Stefnir is the investment arm of Iceland's Arion Bank. It invests across several asset classes, including private equity.
US-based VC General Catalyst makes early-stage and growth equity investments.
Previous funding
In 2015, Icelandic investment fund manager Stefnir led a $98m series-D funding round for Verne. The round also saw participation from existing investors The Wellcome Trust, Novator and General Catalyst.
Company
Founded in 2007 and based in London, Verne owns and operates a data centre campus in Keflavik, Iceland, that uses renewable energy and is entirely carbon neutral. The company offers co-location and wholesale data centre services, and has offices in London, Munich and Washington, DC.
