Consortium in $400m series-C for Hopin
A consortium led by Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst and Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) has backed a $400m series-C round for UK-based virtual event software platform Hopin.
Existing investors Coatue, DFJ Growth, Northzone, Salesforce Ventures and Tiger Global also participated in the round.
Sriram Krishnan, general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, will join Hopin's board of directors following the investment.
The firm has also announced the appointment of Anthony Kennada as chief marketing officer, Sarah Manning as vice-president of people, and Jonathan Killeen as head of remote.
Hopin intends to use the latest round of capital to support its growth as demand for its software platform grows.
Hopin was valued at $2.125bn at the time of its previous funding round in November 2020.
Founder and CEO Johnny Boufarhat told Unquote sister publication Mergermarket in January 2021 that Hopin could seek more than $125m in funding in 2021, with an IPO likely to take place within the next two years.
The company acquired US-based event technology startup Topi in December 2020, followed by US-based video streaming platform StreamYard for $250m in January 2021. Boufarhat told Mergermarket that Hopin currently has another acquisition target in mind, but will also pursue organic growth in the coming years.
Previous funding
Accel led a $6.5m seed round for Hopin in February 2020. Northzone, Seedcamp, Web Summit's Amaranthine Fund and Slack Fund also participated in the round, alongside several business angels. The capital facilitated the launch of Hopin's software platform.
IVP led a $40m series-A round for Hopin in June 2020, deploying equity via Institutional Venture Partners XVI. Also backing the round were Salesforce Ventures, Accel, Northzone, Seedcamp and Slack Fund.
In November 2020, Hopin raised a $125m series-B round led by IVP and Tiger Global. Coatue, DFJ Growth, Accel, Northzone, Salesforce Ventures and Seedcamp also backed the round.
