SEP, Albion invest £3m into Silent Herdsman
Scottish Equity Partners (SEP), Albion Ventures and Scottish Investment Bank have invested ТЃ3m into livestock-focused software company Silent Herdsman.
The investment, led by SEP, will support the company's growth and enable the expansion of its product range.
SEP was attracted to the company because of the annual $1bn market in which it operates, based on the existence of more than one billion cows globally, and more than 34 million in Europe and the US alone.
Company
Silent Herdsman develops predictive analytic software with remote sensor devices used by livestock farmers. Monitoring collars worn by cows send alerts to farmers' mobile phones, tablets and laptops, which identify a change in activity. For example, the collars can detect oestrus, using predictive analytics software. The software and device aim to assist farmers in making swift and precise actions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their beef and dairy herd business. Silent Herdsman has also developed patented technology that has the ability to make accurate health predictions, which can result in improvements to cows' health and increase milk yield.
Glasgow-based Silent Herdsman was previously known as Embedded Technology Solutions. It launched its agricultural software tool in the UK in 2010. The company began life as a spinout from the University of Strathclyde in 2009. Today, the company is present in the UK and Europe.
