
Index backs MetaPack with £20m
Index Ventures has injected £20m into MetaPack, a UK-based provider of a software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery management platform for e-commerce.
The capital injection will be used by MetaPack to fund international expansion across Europe, Asia and the US, as well as further developing its products for existing customers.
Previous funding
According to unquote" data, MetaPack was previously backed by London-based incubator Brainspark, Cross Atlantic Capital Partners (CACP), DFJ Esprit and Top Technology Ventures (TTV), the latter of which is a subsidiary of IP Group.
In April 2000, Brainspark and CACP invested £2.6m in the company. The following March, CACP led a second funding round for MetaPack alongside DFJ Esprit and TTV. CACP and DFJ Esprit each injected £1.5m into the business, while Brainspark footed the balance.
In July 2006, Brainspark and CACP invested a further £250,000 in MetaPack alongside the company's management.
The company is now no longer listed in the portfolios of DFJ Esprit and TTV on their websites. CACP is still a backer of the company, according to its website. However, according to MetaPack's website the company was backed by Artemis and the William Currie Group prior to this funding round.
Company
Founded in 1999, MetaPack is headquartered in London with an additional office in Hamburg. The company employs approximately 100 staff and is believed to have generated turnover of £9.5m for the 12 months ending March 2013.
MetaPack provides the MetaPack Delivery Platform to retailers for e-commerce. The SaaS platform allows online retailers to manage their home delivery service by connecting shippers with parcel carriers and providing alternative drop-off, collection and return solutions.
Clients include Asos, John Lewis, IBM and Halfords.

Patrick Wall is the founder and CEO of MetaPack. Dominique Vidal is a partner at Index and has joined MetaPack's board of directors.
