Pembroke et al. back ME+EM
Pembroke VCT, Oakley Capital Group’s VC arm, has invested in London-based womenswear brand ME+EM alongside Venrex Fund and Sir Charles Dunstone and several other private investors.
The fresh equity will assist ME+EM as it broadens its existing offering with new products and introduces wholesale retailing on a targeted basis. The business, which claims to have grown twofold within the last 18 months, has plans to invest in the digital and PR areas, among others.
Although the stake to be held by Oakley's listed VC arm in ME+EM was not disclosed, it typically secures minority shareholdings in the companies it backs.
The investment is Pembroke's fifth in the retail and apparel sector, after deploying capital in support of shoe designer Kat Maconie, luxury menswear Troubadoor Goods and retailer Penfield, among other companies.

ME+EM is a womenswear brand established by Clare Hornby in 2009. The retailer sells products including tailored dresses, blouses, jeans, jackets, knitwear and accessories. Headquartered in London, the company is currently generating revenues and claims to have doubled in size in the last 18 months.
