Sunamp raises £3.2m from Highland Venture et al.
Scottish heat battery maker Sunamp has raised £3.2m in a round led by an unnamed private investor alongside existing investors.
Sunamp's existing investors are Scottish Investment Bank, Par Equity, Equity Gap, Highland Venture Capital and Old College Capital.
The fresh funding will be used to support the company's growth into new markets and for product development.
Company
Based in East Lothian, Scotland, Sunamp makes heat batteries that store energy as heat when it is available and release it when it is required. The technology was developed by Professor Colin Pulham of the University of Edinburgh School of Chemistry.
Sunamp uses phase change materials to create systems capable of storing and releasing heat.
The company's portfolio of products include SunampPV, a compact 5 kWh heat battery, which allows homes with solar panels to store excess energy for future use rather than sending it to the grid.
SunampStack is a larger unit which can store 40 kWh; and SunampCube, currently being developed, will be the size of an ISO shipping container that can be transported.
