Ardian to boost US operations with San Francisco office
Having entered the US market via a New York office in 1999, Ardian has opened a second base in San Francisco to be steered by senior investment manager Wilfred Small.
Small will report to Vladimir Colas and Mark Benedetti, the managing directors who lead Ardian's New York-based operations.
Small began his career at BlackRock Private Equity Partners as an analyst. In July 2011, he was recruited for the same position at Ardian and worked out of the GP's New York office. He was promoted to investment manager in February 2014 before becoming senior investment manager in July 2015.
Under his leadership, the San Francisco team will work on expanding Ardian's contacts among West Coast-based LPs, GPs, corporates and local partners. The GP intends to use this network as a foundation to build on its funds-of-funds, direct, infrastructure and private debt operations – the latter closed a €2bn third fund in mid-September.
In early September, the firm bolstered its presence in Europe with the opening of a new office in Madrid – a move meant to increase buyout activity in a region where operations had previously been restricted to the infrastructure sector.
With San Francisco, Ardian now operates offices in 12 cities worldwide including its Paris headquarters, London, Frankfurt, Milan, Madrid, Zurich, Luxembourg, Jersey, Beijing, Singapore and New York.
