UK - Carbon Trust invests £4m in New Earth Solutions
Carbon Trust Investments has invested ТЃ4m in waste treatment and renewable energy company New Earth Solutions.
The investment forms part of a £15m capital raising for the company, announced in August this year.
Dorset-based New Earth Solutions helps local authorities to meet their obligations to divert waste. It has existing and planned operations in the south and central England and contracts to receive waste from the local authorities of Bournemouth, Dorset, Bristol, Kent, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire. The company's technology uses air-handling equipment to prevent odour or emissions of bio-aerosols associated with less robust treatment processes.
The business is also developing thermal technologies to support the use of waste-derived feedstock for renewable power plants and combined heat and power schemes for public and private customers. New Earth has three operational waste treatment plants that can process 170,000 tonnes of waste a year. The company was founded in 2002 and employs 65 people.
The new funding will allow for the use gasification and pyrolysis technologies to convert waste-derived fuel into electricity, a new business line for the company. Its first energy recover power plant is expected to commence trading in 2010.
Since August, the company has raised £9m to date, as this investment follows a £5m round by Ludgate Environmental Fund in September. New Earth has previously raised £8m from Impax Asset Management.
