AUSTRIA - BAWAG looking to serve Cuban customers
Cerberus Capital Management portfolio company BAWAG PSK is said to be exploring the possibility of obtaining the permission from US authorities to serve Cuban customers.
Since US law prohibits not only American businesses but also their subsidiaries abroad from conducting any commerce with Cuban nationals, the bank has had to terminate the business relationships with its Cuban customers. A consortium led by Cerberus had acquired the Austrian bank in December last year, with EU regulators clearing the sale at the end of February.
