GERMANY - Frog doubles SiC stake
London-based venture firm Frog Capital has doubled its stake in portfolio company SiC Processing AG, a producer of wafer cutting fluids used in silicon wafers, through the purchase of holdings from other shareholders.
SiC raised EUR 53m in a funding round led by Merrill Lynch and Zouk Ventures in 2007. The company is profitable and expects revenues approaching EUR 100m this year.
Established in 2000 and based in Hirschau, SiC has some 70% market share in the recycling and supply of wafer cutting fluids used to produce silicon wafers for solar panels and semiconductors. Recycling these fluids offers savings over new materials and reduces waste accumulation. The company has worldwide presence with production sites in the USA, China, Germany, Norway and Italy, and counts the major solar and semiconductor wafer producers amongst its customers.
