SPAIN - HgCapital builds solar presence
HgCapital's Renewable Power Partners Fund has purchased stakes in three Spanish solar photovoltaic (PV) plants from AIG Financial Products Corp and investment banking firm 360 Corporate. The deal represents an enterprise value of EUR 300m.
The total output of the three plants is 35.4MW, which will compliment the two fixed-axis projects (17MWp) and one single axis tracker project (18MWp) already in HgCapital's Spanish portfolio.
The deal marks HgCapital's first Spanish and first solar investment, and is the firms first renewable energy deal in 2009. In 2008, the firm invested in the EUR 185m in Havsnäs wind farm in Sweden and expanded its UK wind farm development portfolio to 350MW.
With this investment, HgCapital has controlling interests in 35 European renewable energy projects in construction, operation or development. The portfolio includes 300MW in operation or construction and a development pipeline of an additional 300MW.
