
UK- Dunedin-backed WFEL secures £18m contract with US Dept of Defence
WFEL Limited, the defence engineering group backed by private equity house Dunedin, has secured an £18m contract with the US Department of Defense to supply it with military bridging systems.
The order includes the supply of eight M18 Dry Support bridges, along with associated support services for delivery over the next three years.
Founded in 1914, WFEL designs and manufactures military tactical bridges used by militaries in conflict zones, and offers a range of mobile bridge products which have applications in disaster relief and non-military areas. The company is located in Stockport.
Dunedin invested £21m in the $48m management buyout of WFEL in December 2006, acquiring a majority stake in the business.
Since the investment, the manufacturing workforce has increased by 60% to 128 people.The company had a turnover of £29.6m in 2008, an increase from £27.8m in 2006.
