Serena Capital leads €6m round for iContainers
French venture capital firm Serena Capital has led a €6m funding round for Barcelona-based freight transport service iContainer.
According to press reports, Serena bought a 30% stake in the business. As part of the deal, Serena partner Anne-Valérie Bach will join the company's board.
iContainer intends to use the fresh capital to double its 40-strong team by the end of 2016 and expand its business across South and Central America, as well as boost its market penetration across Europe and Asia.
The deal marks the first transaction in the Spanish market for Serena, which intends to increase its focus on the region.
Previous funding
The company raised a €1.3m round from Kibo Ventures and Vitamina K in February 2015.

Established in 2007, iContainers operates an online platform that enables companies to plan and manage the sea and air transport of containers.
The business is headquartered in Barcelona and generated a turnover of €7.5m in 2015. It employs 40 people and has a presence in Spain and the US. It plans to open a new office in the Netherlands.
