Patron injects €150m into Generator
Patron Capital has invested a further тЌ150m into hostel business Generator to support its acquisition of sites in Paris and Rome.
The new sites are set to open in 2014; the Paris property, located in the Canal St-Martin neighbourhood, will be the group's largest facility with 950 beds.
The Rome site, which will open in spring 2014, is a 1900s residential building on Via Principe Amedeo – within walking distance from the Colosseum. The hostel will have 80 rooms and accommodate up to 264 guests.
Previous investment
Patron first invested in Generator in August 2007, acquiring management operations from a family-owned business and its existing sites in London and Berlin.
Since the first investment, Patron has supported the group's expansion, adding a further seven sites including those in Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dublin, Barcelona and Venice.
Company
Generator hostels focus on providing affordable accommodation for young travellers in urban locations. The group has offerings in Berlin, Copenhagen, Dublin, Hamburg, London and Venice. This year it opened a new site in Barcelona and a second in Berlin.
People
Generator's chief designer Anwar Makhayech will lead the design work for both the Paris and Rome sites. Carl Michel is executive chairman of Generator. Josh Wyatt is director of hospitality and Leisure at Patron.
