Benelux starts year on strong footing
The first quarter of 2007 was by far the busiest in the Benelux region, building on a highly-active last six months in 2006. Between January and March 2007, 41 deals were completed against 60 transactions for the rest of the year. The total transaction value was EUR7.4bn for Q1 2007 against EUR8.6bn for the last three.
But after a strong first quarter, the total value and volume activity dropped dramatically. Is that the sign of the slowdown that has been so widely predicted? Not necessarily: in January this year 18 deals have already been completed, the same as January 2007.
Fortis Private Equity has completed two deals, while Private Plus Fund and Halder closed three transactions each. BioGenerations Ventures just acquired Progentix Orthobiology and is about to buy Noviogendix. If the rest of the year follows the January trend, 2008 will be good.
