Gimv promotes Laga to chair

Listed GP Gimv has appointed lawyer Hilde Laga as the chair of its board of directors in replacement of Urbain Vandeurzen, who is set to resign from the role by 31 March 2016.
The appointment comes three weeks after Gimv announced that Vandeurzen, who has chaired its board of directors since June 2011, would be stepping down once his five-year tenure ran out on 31 March 2016. At the time, the listed GP did not reveal which names were under consideration to replace him.
A Gimv director since June 2015, Laga is a prominent figure within the Belgian business world since founding the M&A-focused legal firm Laga in 1998.
Having overseen the consultancy until 2013, she currently sits on the board of Belgian screen designer Barco, listed imaging specialist Agfa Gevaert and the KU Leuven university. In addition, she is a member of the Belgian Corporate Governance Commission.
Endorsed by the Belgian private equity body Vlaamse Participatiemaatschappij, her appointment will see her hold the reins of Gimv's 12-strong board, including CEO Koen Dejonckheere and directors Dirk Boogmans, Brigitte Boone and Marc Descheemaecker, among others.
Her promotion marks the departure of Urbain Vandeurzen, who was a director at Gimv prior to being appointed as chair. Aside from co-founding private-equity-backed engineering specialist LMS International in 1980, Vandeurzen has been vice-president of the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium and vice-chaired the Leuven Chamber of Commerce and trade body Agoria Flanders.
His resignation marks the end of a five-year transition by Gimv into platform-focused investment. Set up between 2012-2013, the scheme has seen the listed GP evolve from an unstructured, deal-by-deal investment strategy to one where deals are sourced and executed via four separate platforms: Connected Consumer, Health & Care, Smart Industries and Sustainable Cities.
