MTIP, Akilia et al. invest in Koa Health

MTIP, Akilia Partners, Creas Impacto, Sabadell Asabys and Mundi Ventures have invested around €16m in Koa Health, a digital mental healthcare provider.

This investment is part of a series-A round that collected around €14m in October 2020, and was led by Wellington Partners Life Sciences and Ancora Finance Group.

With the additional financing raised in this extension, the round has reached €30m.

Following the investment, MTIP partner David Germonpré will join Koa's board of directors.

The company intends to use the fresh capital to fuel its growth, consolidate its market position and further expand internationally, primarily in the US.

Koa also plans to accelerate its product development by expanding content for its digital mental wellness solutions, making its tools available in additional languages, and adding new diagnoses supported by its platform.

It also plans to launch a wide range of new mental healthcare assistance products, from digital wellbeing to digital therapeutics, to improve users' mental wellbeing as well as helping them access mental health services.

Koa Health is a digital mental healthcare provider that offers a variety of integrated solutions, from improving wellbeing to supporting treatment for a range of common mental disorders.

The company was established in 2020, when it span out from Spanish global telecommunications company Telefónica.

Koa serves a wide base of customers, including businesses, healthcare providers and insurers. Its flagship product is Koa Foundations, a mental wellbeing app that helps organisations support employees with activities focused on tackling stress, sleeping better, aiding relaxation and positive thinking, and boosting self-confidence. Koa Foundations is available to more than three million people.

Koa works in partnership with a range of healthcare specialists and organisations, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Aging Research, and the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Koa is headquartered in Amsterdam and Barcelona, with additional operations in the UK and the US.
