CEE fundraising up 50% to €1bn
Almost €1bn was raised by CEE-focused funds in 2011, up almost 50% from the previous year, according to EVCA.
Private equity and venture capital funds focused on the CEE region raised a total of €941m – this is up 48% on 2010, primarily driven by an increase in fundraising for buyout funds.
At the same time, approximately €1.2bn was invested in the region across 195 companies. Total deal value is down 4.6% year-on-year, while volume climbed by 17%.
However, EVCA believes the region still holds significant untapped potential for the industry. Currently, private equity investment in CEE is equivalent to approximately 0.1% of GDP, compared to a Europe-wide average of 0.33%, indicating significant expansion opportunities for funds operating in the east.
Poland continues to be the strongest country in the region, attracting 55% of total private equity investment.
Last week, unquote" highlighted widespread inaccuracies in some reports over the amount of investment in CEE.
