Enterprise Investors injects €10m in Profi Rom Food
Enterprise Investors has made a €10m follow-on investment in Profi Rom Food, one of its portfolio companies in Romania.
The investment came from Polish Enterprise Fund VI (PEF VI), managed by Enterprise Investors. PEF VI acquired Profi Rom Food in March 2010 for €66m and controls 100% of the company. To date, the company has invested about €20m of its own capital in new and existing stores. The total invested in the firm may rise to as much as €100m in the coming years.
The investment will enable Profi Rom Food to open new stores as well as to acquire smaller supermarket chains in Romania. The company will open six new stores by the end of 2011 and at least 25 new stores in 2012. There are also plans to implement new 300-500sqm concept stores in towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants.
Company
Profi Rom Food currently operates 101 stores in 67 cities in Romania. Since Enterprise Investors took over a controlling stake, Profi has opened 37 new stores, including 19 this year.
In 2010, sales reached RON725m (over €180m), and were 21% up on 2009. Despite the current difficult conditions in Romania’s retail market, which contracted by 6% in the first six months of 2011, Profi's sales expanded by 35% in the same period.
Since the acquisition, Profi has hired more than 1,000 workers throughout the country, bringing its number of employees up to 2,800.
Profi Rom Food was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Timisoara, Western Romania.
