Warburg Pincus acquires Gemini
US private equity firm Warburg Pincus has acquired Polish pharmacy operator Apteki Gemini.
The transaction is the first Polish investment by Warburg Pincus since the MBO of Polish telecoms operator Inea in 2013.
Gemini's existing management will remain in place following Warburg's investment, implementing the strategy the company had already plotted. This includes expanding Gemini's offering from northern Poland, where its operations are currently focused, to the entire country, as well as developing its online offering.
The US GP was active in the Polish market last quarter, exiting its 31.71% stake in listed Polish fast-food restaurant franchise AmRest Holdings to Mexico's FinAccess in August.
Company
Gdansk-headquartered Apteki Gemini is a Polish pharmacy and online pharmacy operator in Poland. Founded in 1990, the company mainly operates in the northern region of the country, where it runs 31 physical stores.
People
Warburg Pincus managing director Paul Best led the deal for the GP. Aleksandra Kuźniak is the CEO of Apteki Gemini.
