Sobera acquires Polytechnos portfolio
Berlin-based secondaries direct investor Sobera Capital has acquired an investment portfolio from Polytechnos Venture Partners.
The transaction saw assets from the Polytechnos Venture Fund II transferred to Sobera Capital's portfolio.
The assets include Nanotron, Panoratio Holdings and Capella. Nanotron is a low-power wireless sensor networking chip developer that sells wireless products for logistics and healthcare applications. It was one of the first investments made by the Venture Fund II, when it led a €6.5m funding round in 2001.
Panoratio, a Siemens Corporate Technology spin-off, develops data-imaging software. The company eceived €3.2m in 2004, followed by a further €4.5m a year later. Ireland-based Capella is a medical devices company that develops treatments for complex coronary artery disease. It raised three rounds of funding totalling around €27m.
Munich-headquartered Polytechnos was founded in 1998 and raised three funds. The Polytechnos Venture Fund II was launched in June 2001, holding a final close in January 2003 on €130m. Its initial target was €180m, according to unquote" data. It was structured as a 10-year limited partnership, with possible extensions subject to advisory board approval.
Investors included Bank of America, the University of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt University, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, the European Investment Fund and KfW Bank. Polytechnos planned to make around 20-25 investments from the vehicle.
Sobera Capital acquires and manages portfolios of private equity assets while also investing in funds as an LP. It focuses on venture and small-cap funds and assets in the healthcare, technology and information management sectors.
