
AVCO reports Austrian private equity growth
According to the latest AVCO numbers, private equity and venture capital investments significantly increased in Austria in 2007, compared with 2006. While AVCO cautions that the numbers of 2007 and 2006 cannot necessarily be compared due to a change in methodology, the numbers for Austria are encouraging. Investors have raised a total of EUR431m in 2007, up 55% from 2006. The most active LPs are banks, as they contributed 31.4% of the capital, and family offices rank second, with 25.6%. Some EUR257m was invested in Austrian companies in 2007, up 63% compared to 2006, with 60% of the capital financing buyouts and 21% financing replacement transactions. By sector, 43% of the capital was invested in the chemical industry, followed by financial services with 23% and industrial manufacturers (17%). In 2007, exits yielded EUR210m, up 15% compared with 2006. Trade sales acounted for 88.8%.
