KKR's BMG acquires Cherry Lane Music Publishing
KKR's portfolio company BMG Rights Management has agreed to acquire US-based Cherry Lane Music Publishing.
The company was acquired to boost BMG's music right catalogue. This is BMG's second add-on transaction after acquiring the music publishing assets of certain affiliates of music publisher Crosstown Songs America, with which BMG acquired the rights to more than 8,000 songs from the Los Angeles-based company. BMG expects to close several more acquisitions in the near future and is reported to be interested in the music catalogue of embattled EMI.
BMG was founded as a joint venture between KKR and Bertelsmann AG to build a global player in the music rights management industry. KKR owns 51% of the business while Bertelsmann holds the remaining stake.
