Tekel Cigarettes bought by BAT
Tekel Cigarettes, the Turkish state-owned tobacco firm has been bought by British American Tobacco (BAT). At the end of 2007 the Turkish Government put the company up for sale. Four groups of investors submitted an offer. Among them, Cinven declared its interest for the company last month and bid in a consortium under the name Strand Investment. The other final bidders were a consortium including Turkish conglomerate Dogan Holding and another consortium including the Turkish construction group Lima Insaat. The auction was finally won by BAT.
