Hellman & Friedman to take over Scout24
US private equity house Hellman & Friedman is set to buy internet portal group Scout24 from German telecommunications provider Deutsche Telekom, according to reports.
Hellman & Friedman is said to have offered €1.4bn for a 70% stake in the business, according to Reuters. This transaction would value the Scout24 group, which comprises online marketplaces such as car-selling platform Autoscout24 and real estate selling platform Immobilienscout24, at around €2bn.
Deutsche Telekom had been looking at various exit options since announcing that Scout24 was undergoing a strategic review in December 2012. The telecommunications company looked for external investors able to increase Scout24's capital and enabled the firm to grow.
In September this year, Swedish private equity house EQT was reported to have bid for the Munich-based firm. Other private equity firms as well as publisher Axel Springer have also been reported to be circling Scout24 since January this year.
Deutsche Telekom declined to comment, while Hellman & Friedman was not available for comment.
