3i sponsors private equity professorship
3i has agreed to sponsor a professorship at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt to further encourage research and education in the field of private equity. 3i, which has had offices in Germany for 25 years, will fund the chair with EUR200,000 per annum for a period of six years, with a review after the third year. With the agreement between the university and 3i now in place, the next step will be to identify an individual who brings excellent research and teaching experience in the area of private equity in a domestic and international context.
"We have a particular interest in advancing education and research in the area of private equity and in improving the understanding of the contribution this form of finance makes to society," said Stephan Kruemmer, partner and managing director of German-speaking Europe at 3i.
In a market environment where transparency and better communication with the media and society at large are increasingly important issues for the industry, this sponsorship is certainly an important step in the right direction.
