
Earlybird in €3m series-A for BigchainDB
Earlybird Venture Capital, Anthemis Group, Digital Currency Group and Innogy SE have backed a €3m series-A for blockchain technology startup BigchainDB.
The company is currently at the proof-of-concept stage in its product development and hopes to enter the market with the new funding. Its target customers are businesses in the areas of financial services, supply chain management, energy, Internet-of-Things and intellectual property.
Headquartered in New York, Anthemis focuses on both North America and Europe. Its first vehicle Anthemis Venture Fund I raised $285m from LPs including the European Investment Fund and UniCredit.
Previous funding
BigchainDB raised $2m in seed funding from Earlybird and Digital Currency in June 2015.

Founded in 2014 and based in Berlin, BigchainDB is a blockchain database for developers and enterprises. The business claims its database can handle hundreds of thousands of transactions per second and benefits from built-in encryption.
