
Runa et al. in $34m round for Smava
Runa Capital has led a $34m series-C for German lending marketplace Smava.
New backer Mojo Capital and existing investor Earlybird Venture Capital also participated in the round. Verdane Capital previously acquired Neuhaus Partners' stake in the business and also came on board for the series-C.
Runa partner Andre Bliznyuk and Verdane partner Henrik Aspén have joined the advisory board.
The new capital will be used in an effort to win new customers, hire additional staff and improve the platform's technology.
Previous funding
Smava raised $16m from Phenomen Ventures, Neuhaus and Earlybird in April 2015. In September 2016, Verdane acquired Neuhaus's stake as part of a portfolio acquisition.
Earlybird and Neuhaus invested €4m in October 2008. The first €4m round was closed in 2007 and led by Earlybird.

Founded in 2007 and based in Berlin, Smava is a marketplace connecting private borrowers with banks and private investors. It offers loans ranging from €1,000-120,000.
The startup claims it originated a loan volume of $1.75bn to date. Smava has 180 employees.
