Calumet Wex, a portfolio company of Aurelius Equity Opportunities, has acquired a majority stake in Germany-based photography products retailer Foto-Video Sauter from founder and manager Bernd Sauter.
Following the deal, Calumet Wex expects to consolidate its market position in the photography and video products sector, and increase its revenues by around 10%. Meanwhile, Foto-Video Sauter plans to use the fresh capital to boost its growth and further expand its product offering by adding secondhand products, and repair and leasing services. The company will continue to operate under its own brand name.
Aurelius acquired multi-channel photography retailer Calumet Photographic in June 2016. The deal was part of the acquisition of Calumet International, the holding company of Calumet Photographic and professional lighting producer Bowens Lighting.
Subsequently, in March 2017, Aurelius bought UK-based Warehouse Express – which trades under the Wex Photographic brand – from Barclays Ventures, and merged the company with Calumet. The combined group operates 18 stores located in Germany, Belgium, the UK and the Netherlands, as well as online shops. It generates annual revenues of €200m.
