Heal Capital leads series-A for CereGate
Healthcare technology investor Heal Capital has led a series-A funding round for computer-brain-interface specialist CereGate.
Existing investors High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and TruVenturo also took part in the round.
The company intends to use the fresh capital to further develop its clinical studies.
This is the third investment made recently by venture capital house Heal Capital, which launched its debut fund in 2019 with a €100m target. The vehicle held a first close in January 2020 on €80m.
The fund makes equity investments of €3-5m, deploying up to €15m per company. It targets technology-enabled healthcare companies at series-A stage that are actively driving the innovation of healthcare.
Previous funding
HTGF and TruVenturo backed CereGate with an undisclosed amount of financing in January 2020. The investment included a capital increase and a convertible note.
Company
CereGate specialises in developing a software-based computer-brain-interface (CBI). Its technology is able to "write" or "transmit" information into the brain, rather than just passively conduct reading of or sensing ongoing neural activity.
CereGate's software augments existing therapies for patients with sensory deficits or neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease, and develops new therapeutic approaches, with the aim of helping them improve their condition and quality of life.
The company successfully completed an in-human proof-of-concept study with more than 15 patients in 2020.
CereGate is headquartered in Munich, Germany, with an additional office in San Diego, California.
