
Bregal buys minority stake in Woom
Bregal Unternehmerkapital has acquired a minority stake in Austria-based children's bike distributor Woom.
Investing alongside Bregal were a group of three entrepreneurs, including Florian Gschwandtner, the founder of running app Runtastic.
Woom's founders will retain a 67% stake in the business.
Demand for the company's products has grown during the coronavirus pandemic and the fresh capital is intended to support the company in meeting its development growth needs. Following the investment, Woom will set up a production site in Europe, in addition to its site in Asia.
The company's revenues have grown by 60% in 2020 so far, according to a statement.
Bregal is currently investing via Bregal Unternehmerkapital II, which held a final close in October 2018 on €1.3bn, surpassing its target of €1bn. The fund generally invests €30-150m per platform investment, acquiring minority or majority stakes and focusing on profitable companies with EBITDA of €5-30m.
Company
Woom manufactures and develops bicycles and related accessories for children. It sells its products in Europe and the US via its online shop, as well as via cycle retailers. Founded in 2013 and based in Klosterneuburg, the company employs 100 people. It produces around 200,000 bikes per year, according to a statement.
