
Warburg Pincus invests in McMakler
Warburg Pincus has made a growth capital investment in Germany-based real estate agent and broker McMakler.
Existing shareholders in the business have also participated in the funding round, according to a statement. The company's current backers include Balderton Capital, GR Capital, Frog Capital and Piton Capital.
McMakler intends to invest the fresh capital in its technology platform.
Warburg Pincus invested via its Global Growth Fund (Warburg Pincus Private Equity XIII), which held a final close in November 2019 on $14.8bn, surpassing its target of $13bn. The vehicle invests in both early-stage and later-stage startups, deploying equity tickets of $50-500m.
Previous funding
In 2015, Piton Capital, Lakestar, Heilemann Ventures, DN Capital, Target Global, Earlybird, Warpspeed and Mutschler Ventures provided a seed investment of €1m for McMakler.
Frog Capital, Lakestar, Mutschler and Cavalry Ventures led an €8.5m series-A round for the business in 2016.
In 2017, Frog Capital led a €16m series-B financing round, joined by existing investors Piton Capital, Mutschler Ventures and Cavalry Ventures.
In June 2019, Target Global and Israel Growth Partners led a €50m series-C round for McMakler. McMakler also raised an additional €10m in debt financing.
In October 2019, GR Capital and Balderton invested $20m in McMakler. Balderton invested via Balderton Liquidity I, which held a final close in 2018 on $145m. The vehicle acquires minority stakes from existing backers of companies that have raised more than $20m in financing.
Company
Berlin-headquartered McMakler was founded in 2015 and partners with 300 brokers to provide online real estate and brokerage services in Germany. The company employed 450 staff at the time of its last funding round in October 2019 and now employs 600 people.
