Project A opens first international office in London
Berlin-headquartered Project A Ventures has opened in London its first international office, with the aim of establishing a local presence for future UK investments.
Although the firm has had investment team members on the ground since 2019, the office opening marks the establishment of an official presence in the UK market.
The office will be led by principals Sam Cash and Jack Wang, as well as associate Luc de Leyritz.
The firm said in a statement that it regards the UK as a significant technology hub and that it expects to see a growing number of startups emerging from the UK market.
Project A makes seed and Series A investments in companies based in Europe, backing startups in the consumer, marketplaces, software-as-a-service, "deep-tech", financial technology, insurance technology, mobility and gaming sectors.
The firm is currently deploying equity via Project A Ventures III, which held a final close in September 2019 on EUR 180m. The fund makes initial investments of EUR 500,000-5m and can invest up to EUR 12m per company.
In addition to capital, Project A has a network of around 100 operational support experts in areas including sales, business intelligence and software engineering.
Project A made its first investment in the UK in the year of its foundation in 2012 and has since backed startups including workplace mental health platform Unmind and online payment platform WorldRemit. The firm has a portfolio of USD 600m in assets under management and has invested in 70 startups across 12 countries to date.
