HTGF in Pulsar Photonics seed round
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) has provided €600,000 in seed funding for German laser technology firm Pulsar Photonics.
Pulsar hopes to contribute to the ongoing trend that sees traditional production practices replaced by laser-based processes. The company develops ultra-short pulse lasers, which emit extremely short pulses of light. These are being used on an industrial scale in fields such as stent production, the drilling of injection nozzles and electronics manufacturing.
Pulsar plans to use the funding to further develop the technology and extend the possible applications.
HTGF usually invests €600,000 at the seed stage, with up to a total of €2m per portfolio company in follow-on financing. In January, the VC added a similar startup to its portfolio – Cycle, which develops ultra-short pulse laser technology. Its main product categories are laser-based synchronisation and micro-electronics.
Company
Pulsar was founded in September 2013 in Herzogenrath as a spinout from the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology. The company develops micro-machining production systems featuring lasers that it hopes can be set up and utilised as efficiently as today's conventional CNC processing machines in the future.
Pulsar claims to enable customers to reduce main and auxiliary process times in production, meaning the systems can be used for a broad range of applications.
