
HTGF et al. exit bab.la to Oxford University Press
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), Mountain Partners and Berlin Venture Partners have sold multilingual dictionary and translation website bab.la to Oxford University Press (OUP).
OUP has developed its own consumer website, OxfordDictionaries.com, which will bring bab.la under its umbrella. Bab.la will continue to operate in Germany with its team of editors and language specialists.
HTGF first invested in bab.la in August 2008.

Founded in May 2007 and launched three months later, Hamburg-based bab.la is an online language portal comprising a multilingual dictionary and translation website. It offers 39 dictionaries for 28 languages, a language forum, verb conjugation for 11 languages, phrase books and an internship platform, among other services.

Casper Grathwohl is president at Oxford Dictionaries. Patrick Uecker is managing director of bab.la. Romy Schnelle led the original deal for HTGF.
