IBB and HTGF back Scopis in series-A
IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) have supported Scopis in a series-A financing round.
Also joining the funding round was business angel Falk Strascheg and research society Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
The seven-digit funding will be used to finance Scopis's global expansion and enhance the development of new products.
Previous backer HTGF originally invested in Scopis in an early-stage funding round in 2010.
Company
Scopis develops and manufactures surgical navigation technology, with a focus on laser-based measuring and navigation systems for minimally invasive surgery. Its latest navigation system is called Scopis Hybrid Navigation. The systems include an augmented reality function, which allows the surgeon to decide on the right navigation path during surgery beforehand – similar to a car GPS. If the surgeon strays from the path during the surgery an audio signal will voice warnings.
The company was founded in 2010 as a spinout from Berliner Zentrum für Mechatronische Medizintechnik, a research centre managed by the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and Charité Berlin. Scopis currently sells its products in more than 20 different countries.
People
Bartosz Kosmecki is Scopis's founder and CEO. Kay Balster is investment manager at HTGF. Ute Mercker is a senior investment manager at IBB.
