caprotec bioanalytics GmbH (Germany) - Nov 2007
VC Fonds Berlin GmbH (managed by IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft), ERP Startfonds and private investors have invested €4.5m in caprotec bioanalytics GmbH. The funding round was closed in December 2007. The investors will also contribute with their networks to further expand the company.
The funds will be used to enter the operative stage of the company by establishing company headquarters in Berlin, the establishment of the team, and the development and marketing of the company’s proprietary Capture Compound Mass Spectrometry (CCMS) platform technology in the pharmaceutical and analytics markets. The CCMS technology was developed by Prof Dr Hubert Köster, who founded caprotec as his fourth biotechnology company based on his innovations. The CCMS technology focuses on trifunctional molecules, the so-called capture compounds (CCs). They allow the targeted isolation of protein or protein classes directly from the biological sample. caprotec bioanalytics GmbH is developing a family of kits for the specific isolation of proteins. Alternatively, CCs are used for the optimisation and selection of drug candidates to determine target or off target proteins and the mechanism of the drug effect.
Company
caprotec bioanalytics GmbH was founded by Prof Dr Hubert Köster in 2006 in Berlin to commercialise his CCMS technology in the fields of proteom analysis, drug development and the development of protein biomarkers. The company holds a patent portfolio of 10 US and 25 international patent registrations, 16 of which have been granted. The technology has been validated in all three fields through proof-of-principle experiments. The company is aided by an international scientific advisory board that includes a Nobel prize winner.
