
Crate raises $4m seed round from Dawn Capital et al.
Dawn Capital has led the $4m seed round for Austrian database developer Crate Technology, alongside Sunstone Capital, Speedinvest, Draper Esprit and a business angel.
The startup will use the fresh capital to further develop its database, add more features to its product, improve the support for users and grow its customer base. Ari Helgason from Dawn Capital will join the board.
Early-stage VC Dawn Capital invests in European software-as-a-service and fintech companies. It typically invests between £2-5m in companies that are expanding internationally and are looking for operational support and capital.

Founded in 2014 and based in Dornbirn, Crate is an open source Structured Query Language (SQL) database. SQL is a special-purpose programming language designed for managing data held in a relational database management system. The company has 18 employees and additional sites in Berlin and San Francisco.
