HTGF backs Bitwala's €800,000 seed round
High-Tech-Gründerfonds (HTGF) and bitcoin and blockchain investor Digital Currency Group have invested €800,000 in German bitcoin app Bitwala.
The investment will be used for developing the Bitwala app and expanding globally.
HTGF invests between €500,000-2m in Germany-based technology companies. In September 2015, HTGF backed isaac10, another startup that develops an alternative payment solution.
Company
Founded in 2015 and based in Berlin, Bitwala provides international money transfers using blockchain technology. It offers 11 different currencies, a bitcoin debit card and business accounts for users with and without bank accounts. The startup claims to have surpassed €2m in transaction volume and has attracted more than 2,000 customers across Africa, Asia and Europe.
