LPs expect small returns
According to Coller Capital's Global Private Equity Barometer Winter 2008-2009, the LP sentiment is that they expect a maiden return of less than 1.5x returns from the current investments in mega-funds. The research underlines a readjustment of LPs expectations to incorporate the current and ongoing issues at the top end of the buyout market.
Adding to this LPs expressed that they would be most likely to refuse re-ups on the poor performance of a GPs current fund or a style drift by GPs. LPs have however stayed optimistic on the whole and expect to achieve returns of at 16% across their PE portfolio.
