Seventure and INRA join to form Agro
French venture capital firm Seventure Partners has formed a partnership with INRA, the technology transfer arm of the French National Institute for Agronomic Research, in order to create Agro Biotech Accelerateur (ABA), a new company designed to finance start-up technology businesses arising from INRA research.
ABA will take responsibility for the final stages of validation for a select few of the most promising technology projects within the INRA, providing funding and support during an accelerated maturation phase that could last for up to two years. The company will specifically aim to facilitate the commercialisation of products and launch of start-up enterprises aimed at future markets in nutrition, plants and industrial biotechnologies and eco-technologies.
The two founding partners, INRA Transfert, the technology transfer arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of INRA, and Seventure Partners have provided funding to ABA sufficient to support several projects each year.
The new subsidiary will be headed up by Pascal Azadian, who is managing director, and Isabelle de Cremoux, general partner and director of the life sciences department.
