Boston-based venture firm Flint Capital has led a $20m series-B funding round for job finder app Job Today, joined by five other investors.

Other investors in the round for the Luxembourg-based business included previous private equity backers Felix Capital, Accel Partners and Mangrove Capital Partners, which had all contributed to a series-A round for the group earlier this year. New investors in the pool included Channel 4, Spanish media group Astremedia and German Media Pool, a Berlin-based media-for-equity fund combining different types of media.

The new money should fuel Job Today's further expansion in Europe, including in Germany, where the group is reportedly preparing its upcoming launch. A US launch could also be on the cards, the company said in a statement. Part of it will also be dedicated to team and product development. The group recently launched its first paid product in the UK, which it will look to further improve.

Previous funding
In January 2016, Accel led a $10m series-A round for Job Today alongside Felix Capital and existing backer Mangrove Capital, a Luxembourg-headquartered VC that had already backed Job Today in June 2015. The round was aimed at financing Job Today's commercial launch in London and Paris. The company previously operated solely in the Spanish market with offices in Madrid and Barcelona.

Company
Founded in 2015, Job Today runs a website and an app that connect job seekers with employers. After creating a profile, both sides may interact via a built-in chat function and discuss a potential employment opportunity. The app matches job seekers and employers by location and other work criteria through its mobile messaging interface. With a particular focus on the services sector, Job Today's largest client companies include McDonald's, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway and Holiday Inn.

Although headquartered in Luxembourg, the business started by operating in Spain, where it claims more than 10,000 job-seekers have successfully used its services to land a job over the past eight months. The company currently employs 50 staff. It reports having two million registered jobseekers on its platform and 150,000 signed up businesses.
