SVCA does diligence on Silicon Valley
The Swedish Venture Capital Association (SVCA) and 12 delegates went on a four-day study trip to San Francisco and Silicon Valley in April to gain further insight and build networks in the US venture community.
Anna-Carin Mansson partner and founder of Theia Investments comments: "It was a very inspirational trip, packed with a good mix of meeting industry participants and social events that gave us further familiarity to the Silicon Valley venture and business angel society. We also gained knowledge of their good and bad experiences throughout the years which were valuable lessons to take on board."
The SVCA group paid a visit to well-known firms like Sequoia, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Vision Capital and Venrock to create new relations. "This trip gave our members the opportunity to build networks across the Atlantic Ocean and to get a further understanding of how the integrated Silicon Valley venture community, including funds, bankers and advisers, all work in symbiosis," notes Jan Segerfeldt, head of communications of SVCA. "We were met by a humble and open community that were interested in our delegates' activities and views," he says.
"This was the first time we had arranged a tour like this, but we are looking to conduct similar trips to other regions like Israel and Asia where there are also valuable lessons to be learned," Segerfeldt says. Participants on the trip were: Creandum, Scope Capital Advisors, Theia Investments, NVCA, FVCA, Stora Enso Ventures, KTH Chalmers Capital, Interim Ventures, Rendera Seed Capital, and LEAD Incubator.
