
SVCA unveils strong stats for Swedish portfolio companies
The Swedish venture Capital Association (SVCA) has released annual statistics on Swedish venture capitalists and private equity portfolio companies' performance. The research comprises 803 private equity and venture capital backed companies from 2001-2006. In total 117 Swedish venture capitalists and private equity firms have been involved in the study.
The most important findings were:
- Swedish venture- and private equity-backed companies had a yearly increase in number of employees of 10.6% and growth of turnover of 21.1%.
- The Swedish venture- and private equity-backed companies had total turnover of SEK 285bn in 2006, which corresponds to 10.7% of Swedish GDP.
- Venture- and private equity-backed companies employ 169,000 people.
- 93% of the portfolio companies have increased or maintained R&D levels under private equity ownership.
- 46% of the portfolio companies are based in the Nordics, 32% in the rest of Europe and 21% in North-America.
