DCVC Bio leads $17m series-A round for BioPhero
Danish agricultural startup BioPhero has raised $17m in a series-A round led by San Fransisco-based investor DCVC Bio.
Syngenta Group Ventures, FMC Ventures and early-stage investor Novo Seeds also took part in the round.
BioPhero, a producer of pheromones as an alternative solution to insecticides, said in a statement that it had successfully shown that it could produce pheromones on a tonne-scale, and that it would use the funding to start production of its first product.
BioPhero in 2014 was awarded a pre-seed grant by Novo Nordisk Foundation. Novo Seeds subsequently led the first seed investment round for the startup in 2018.
Company
Founded in 2016 in a spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark, BioPhero has developed a way to produce pheromones as an alternative to insecticides to allow farmers to control major pests in a variety of row crops. It has fewer than 50 staff.
