Northzone in $18m series-A for Seriously
Nordic VC Northzone has led an $18m series-A funding round for Finnish mobile games developer Seriously, alongside Korea Investment Partners and existing investors.
The company's existing backers Upfront Ventures, Sunstone Capital and Daher Capital also committed funds to the round, which brings the total raised by Seriously to $28m.
The fresh funding will be put to work in expanding Seriously's production team for its Best Fiends game series, which it plans to expand beyond the current mobile platform, including a toy collection. Capital will also be invested in further marketing efforts.
Seriously's round is the second series-A for a Nordic startup led by Northzone in a month, with the VC having led an $8m fundraise for Fishbrain in July.
The funding round for Seriously raised more than three times the average series-A investment in the Nordic region, where the average is $5.65m and the median is $5m, according to analysis by The Nordic Web.
However, the time between Seriously's seed round and series-A was longer than the 15.2-month average for Nordic startups, having raised its first seed funding in November 2013.
Previous funding
Before its series-A, Seriously raised three seed rounds between November 2013 and November 2014.
The first fundraise saw the company raise $2.35m from Upfront and Danish VC Sunstone. A further $2.65m was raised from the same investors in July the following year.
Daher joined Sunstone and Upfront in November 2014 in a $5m funding round.

Founded in August 2013 by a team of breakaways from Angry Birds developer Rovio, Seriously develops games for mobile devices, with its lead product being the Best Fiends trilogy.
