Index and Balderton back Sinch
Newly-created Sinch, a communications spinout of Rebtel, has received $12m in funding from investors including Index Ventures and Balderton Capital.
The fresh capital has enabled the company to spin out from parent company Rebtel. Sinch launched its communications platform this week, enabling smartphone users to add voice and messaging functionality to their apps for free or at a heavily-discounted cost.
Company
Sinch was originally incubated within video-over-internet-protocol business Rebtel to develop its application programming interface. The company provides developers with tools to take advantage of demand from consumers for mobile communication features within apps.
Following its spinout, Sinch now offers a mobile platform with services including free calling, messaging, group messaging SMS and call termination. The company targets app developers in a range of categories including travel, communications, gaming, social networking, commerce and dating.
The company employs more than 40 people between its headquarters in Stockholm and its additional office in San Francisco.
