Alcotán
Javier Salas has been names by GED Private Equity as president of the board of its portfolio company, Alcotán. GED reached an agreement to acquire Alcotán via an €11m management buyout in October 2003 (October 2003, page 18). The transaction, which marked GED's seventh investment, was supported by Banco Guipuzcoano, Banco Pastor and Caja Madrid. Javier Salas will play an active part in supporting the company’s growth strategy, alongside Enrique Campos, the current managing director. His previous posts include two-year-spell as president of Iberia. Since April 2001, he has held the position of president of the Spanish association of professional cleaning companies, Asociación de Profesional de Empresas de Limpieza, as well as being president of Fundación Entorno, Empresa y Medioambiente. He is also on the board of Telvent. Alcotán specialises in 'turnkey' manufacturing of curtain walls in office buildings. The special walls or glass facades can be used for a variety of design, acoustic or thermal purposes. The firm has undertaken a number of projects in conjunction with the architects Santiago Calatrava, Iñigo Ortiz, Rafael de la Hoz, K Rooge and Lamela. Current projects include Barajas Airport, the refurbishment of the Windsor building and the new financial headquarters of SCH.
